How to use Together Lists

Everything the app does, step by step.

⭐ Free & Premium

Together Lists is free with 1 list of your own. Premium adds as many lists as you like, spaces, inviting people, and the sample lists. Premium starts with a 1-month free trial, then $1.99 a month.

  • People you invite join for free. They can use everything in the space or list they were invited to, including making new lists in that space. Lists or spaces of their own, beyond 1 list, need their own Premium.
  • To subscribe, tap You → Get Premium, or tap anything that needs Premium. To get Premium back on a new phone, tap You → Get Premium → Restore purchases.
  • To cancel, open your iPhone’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Together Lists.

🏡 Spaces: Home, Work, a Project

Spaces are part of Premium. A space keeps lists for the same part of your life together. Make one for Home, one for Work, and one for each Project, like a move or a remodel. Lists in one space never mix with another.

Make a space

  1. On the Lists tab, tap Spaces at the top.
  2. Tap New space.
  3. Type a name, like Home, Work or Kitchen remodel, and tap Create.

Use a space

  • Tap a space to see its lists. Tap New list in … to add a list right into it.
  • Tap Edit (top right) to rename the space or set your nickname in this space, for example Dad at home and Jerry at work.
  • A space can be deleted once it has no lists. Move or delete its lists first.

🛒 Lists

  1. Tap the + button at the top of the Lists tab.
  2. Name the list, pick an icon (any emoji from your phone works), a color, and the space it belongs to.
  3. Tap Create.
  • To change a list’s name, icon, color or space later, open the list, tap ••• (top right), then Name, icon, color & space.
  • The same ••• menu has Check all, Clear completed and Delete list.
  • The share button (top right) sends the list as text, for Messages, Mail or Notes.
  • Use the search box on the Lists tab to find any list or item.

✅ Items

  • Add: type in the bar at the bottom of a list and tap +. Tap the category pill next to it to choose the category first.
  • Add with details: type the name, then tap the sliders button (between the category pill and +) to set a price, due date, note, photos and more before adding it. Tap Add when done.
  • Check off: tap the gem on the left. Checked items move to Completed, under the list.
  • Edit: tap the item. This is where you add a price, a due date, a note, photos, and more.
  • Delete: swipe the item to the left and tap Delete. Changed your mind? Tap Undo.

🥦 Categories

  • Tap the category pill in the add bar, then + More categories to pick from over a hundred ready-made ones, each with an emoji. You can search them.
  • Make your own with any name, emoji and color.
  • To rename one or change its emoji or color: open the list, tap •••, then Categories, then tap the category.
  • Tap a category at the top of a list to see only its items.

🏷️ Prices & totals

  1. Tap an item.
  2. Type the amount in Price, like 4.99. Leave it empty if you don’t need one.
  3. Tap Save.

As soon as any item on a list has a price, a Totals box appears under the list:

  • On the list: items showing now.
  • Upcoming and Hidden: items waiting or tucked away (shown when they have prices).
  • Checked off: what you’ve already got or paid.
  • Total: everything added up.

Tap a category at the top of the list and the totals show just that category, like the total for Dairy.

💵 Bills & repeating items

Rent, the power bill, trash day, an oil change every 3 months: add them once and they come back on their own.

Set one up

  1. Add the item, for example Electric bill, then tap it.
  2. Type the amount in Price.
  3. Turn on This is a bill. It shows 💵 on the list, and Activity says “paid” when you check it off.
  4. Tap Add a due date and pick the date it’s due.
  5. Under Repeats, choose Every week, Every 2 weeks, Every month, Every 3 months or Every year.
  6. Under Show on the list, use − and + to pick how many days before the due date it pops up on your list. It starts at 3 days.
  7. Tap Save.

What happens next

  • Until it’s time, the item waits in Upcoming, under the list. Tap Upcoming to see everything that’s coming.
  • When it’s time, it pops up on the list with Due in 3 days, Due tomorrow, Due today, or Overdue in red.
  • When you check off a repeating item, it moves to its next due date and goes back to Upcoming. Nothing to set up again.
  • Monthly bills keep their day. A bill due on the 31st is due on the last day of shorter months, then back on the 31st.
  • Check all skips repeating items, so bills are only marked paid one at a time.
  • Any item can have a due date, not just bills. Pick Doesn’t repeat for a one-time date.
  • To take the date off, tap Remove due date.

📝 Notes

Tap any item and type in Note: the brand, the size, an account number, directions, anything. The first line shows under the item on the list.

📌 Pin & hide

  • Pin to top: tap an item, turn on 📌 Pin to top. It always shows first, even if its due date is still far away.
  • Hide this item: tap an item, turn on 🙈 Hide this item. It moves to Hidden, under the list, out of your way but not deleted. Turn it off to bring it back.

📷 Photos

  1. Tap an item.
  2. Tap Take photo or Choose photo.

A small picture shows on the item. Tap it to see it full screen. To remove a photo, press and hold it in the item’s edit panel.

When you’re signed in, everyone on the list sees the photos too. Photos added while you’re offline go up when you’re back online.

🙋 People

  1. Open a list and tap People.
  2. Tap Add person and type their name.
  3. Tap the person to see their own page of requests and add things for them.

Their requests also show on the main list with their bubble, so everyone knows who asked for what. To choose who asked for an item, tap it and pick a name under Requested by.

🤝 Account & sharing

The app works without an account. To share lists with family, coworkers or a project team, create a free account. Your lists are then kept safe in the cloud and update live for everyone you share with.

Create an account

  1. Open the You tab and tap Sign in or create account.
  2. Choose Create account, type your name, email and a password, and tap Create account.
  3. We email you a link. Tap it to confirm your email, then go back to the app. If it doesn’t arrive, check spam, or tap Send the email again under You → Manage account.

Lists already on your phone are saved into your new account.

Inviting people is part of Premium, and only the owner of a space or list can invite. The people you invite join free.

Invite someone to a whole space

  1. Open the space (on the Lists tab, tap Spaces, then the space).
  2. Tap + Invite at the top, or Invite someone under People. Type their name and tap Invite.
  3. Send the link by text or email. When they open it and tap Join, they see every list in that space, including new ones, and can add lists of their own.

Invite someone to just one list

  1. Open the list and tap People. Add the person first if they aren’t there: tap Add person, type their name, then tap Send … an invite link.
  2. Or tap Invite next to someone already on the list (it says Send again if they were invited before), and send the link.
  3. When they join, they become that person on the list, with their requests already there. The list shows up under Shared with you on their phone.

Good to know

  • Each invite link works once, for the person you sent it to. Open invites show as “Invited · not joined yet”; you can send them again or cancel them.
  • Only the owner invites or removes people. Tap the × next to someone in a space to remove them, or open a person on a list and choose Remove … ’s access.
  • Anyone can leave: open the space and tap Leave this space, or open the list, tap •••, then Leave list.
  • Signing out removes the shared lists from that phone; they come back when you sign in again.
  • To delete your account and everything you own, open You → Manage account → Delete account.
  • Photos on a shared list are shared with everyone on it.

💬 Chat

Open a list and tap Chat to talk about it. Messages clear themselves after 10 days. Press and hold your own message to delete it, or someone else’s to report it. The list’s owner can delete any message.
